You will encounter many allies in your courageous stand against the Shadow forces, eager to offer up powerful rewards and experience in return for your services. Yet not all is lost! The dangers posed have created many opportunities for ambitious monkeys fearless enough to adventure in the shadow-ridden trails. Entire trails have been cut off from their neighbors, filled with monsters that threaten the monkeys’ way of life. Ka’s shadow minions have surfaced around large sections of Ook, disrupting trade and communication. The game has four equippable hot keys (C,V,B,N) to control weapons, potions and any other items you want to access quickly. Pressing control (CTRL) or x next to characters will allow you to access new quests and learn new information about Ook and its residents. Jumping is controlled by pressing the space bar and the arrow keys in the direction you want to go. In Monkey Quest, to explore the worlds of Ook, players use the arrow keys on their keyboard.

Monkey Quest's site,, now redirects to Nickelodeon's Facebook page. After the game's closure, Monkey Quest's website was updated with a new FAQ to help with billing support and inform users about the game's closure. The game remained open for a month after the announcement, finally closing on the set date, September 26, 2014. The Monkey Quest website did not close until January 30, 2016.
The website was also updated with a closing message on the index page. Players were offered refunds for their memberships if they contacted Nickelodeon within a given time before the game shut down. Subsequently, every player was given membership for the remaining time of the game. On August 14, 2014, Nickelodeon announced that after 4 years of operation, Monkey Quest was being shut down permanently on September 26, 2014.
